College Recruiting And Total Sports Recruiting

College recruiting for High School kids in the year 2024 and going forward is going to be a dilemma. So much to think about with the new rule changes in roster size, the portal, D1 scholarships and more. Do I want to play early or sit and develop and hope to play. So many decisions for High School kids coming into their college years.

So many people do not understand the 34 scholarship rule that D1 has come out with for baseball. 20-30 schools that are really big time will be able to afford the full amount of 34 full rides. These scholarships do not come from the NCAA, but from revenue earned all year from the schools. The other thing is the roster size of 34 players. Schools will bring in many more players to compete for those 34 roster spots. Just cause you committed does not mean that you have a roster spot for this money. You will have to come in and compete for the opportunity to be one of those 34 on the roster who have that money. This will severely take away the parity that has become D1 baseball.

D2 D3 NAIA and JUCO will take advantage of this initially. They will compete with kids who were looking but could not get the playing time they want right away. There will be more opportunities at these levels for more skilled kids in HS to come in and play right away as well as develop. I see this everyday now with kids who come into college initially at these levels then look to move up in the Transfer Portal.
